West Village
West Village is a festive mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented development in Durham’s Brightleaf Historic District. Utilizing Federal and State Historic Tax Credits, West Village consists of the adaptive reuse of six historic tobacco manufacturing structures built between 1899 and 1926. The project features 375 loft-style apartments, 164,000 SF of class A office/lab space and 58,000 SF of retail space, a new five-story parking structure and an Amtrak Station.
New construction and renovations included extensive structural investigations, demolition, and replacements; exterior masonry restoration; roof repairs and re-roofing, interior demolition, rework and new construction, and extensive mechanical, electrical and plumbing construction to bring the existing structure into current building code compliance. The project site was 9 acres located in the heart of Durham, NC where day-to-day vehicular and pedestrian traffic was successfully maintained on all streets and walks intersecting and bordering the project throughout the course of construction.
