Wake County Justice Center Central Energy Plant
The central energy plant of the Wake County Justice Center includes two 480 volt generators to support county-owned downtown facilities. The Justice Center includes 577,000 square feet within an 11-story structure. Built to state-of-the-art specifications, the high-rise building includes 18 courtrooms and associated support spaces with the capacity to add four additional courtrooms in the future. The facility also includes meeting space for the Wake County Board of Commissioners and administrative space for county personnel. The Justice Center encompasses an entire city block in downtown Raleigh and connects to the existing courthouse through an underground tunnel.
The Wake County Justice Center was awarded LEED Silver certification by the US Green Building Council. Sustainable features of the building include pollution prevention, improved indoor air quality, recycled stormwater system, low-flow plumbing (total water savings of 45%, 15% more than LEED requires), programmable and natural daylighting and almost 98% construction waste diversion.
