Vinfast

Barnhill’s Grit and Determination on the Vinfast Project

Barnhill doesn’t back down from a tough job, and the Vinfast project was no exception. From August 2022 to December 2024, our team tackled this massive Heavy Highway project head-on, putting in the hard work, adapting on the fly, and delivering results that speak for themselves. The job called for serious site prep, precise utility work, and a no-quit attitude in the face of shifting plans and tough terrain.

Rolling Up Our Sleeves: Scope of Work and Subcontractor Collaboration

This wasn’t a small job. We moved 1,830,000 cubic yards of dirt, laid 26,500 linear feet of pipe, built 63,000 square feet of retaining walls, placed 70,600 tons of ABC stone, as well as 305,500 square yards of lime stabilization. None of that happens without a solid team. We had top-notch subcontractors—Gaines and Company on utilities, Eco Turf, Vertical Walls, Main Drilling and Blasting, Propst Soil Stabilization, Mack Industries, and Old Castle concrete pipe suppliers—helping get the job done right.

Teamwork and Adaptability: No Excuses, Just Solutions

Changes? Plenty. But instead of complaining, our crew leaned in, communicated, and figured out a way forward. The project threw curveballs, requiring us to redo some work along the way, but the team stayed focused, pushed through, and kept things moving.

Overcoming Obstacles: No Shortcuts, No Compromises

Big job, big challenges. Some of the toughest included:

  • Managing a sprawling 205-acre site with strict environmental controls.
  • Working closely with the DEQ to meet erosion control requirements.
  • Coordinating rock blasting in phases with multiple subcontractors.
  • Keeping erosion control in check under heavy scrutiny.
  • Navigating scope changes and bridging communication gaps between U.S. and Vietnam-based customers.

Hard Work Pays Off: Key Successes

Because we don’t cut corners, we walked away with some big wins:

  • Zero DEQ violations—Vinfast and environmental authorities appreciated the care we took.
  • Earned trust and respect from Vinfast for delivering quality work.
  • Built a solid relationship with WSP inspectors, making sure every box was checked.
  • Leveraged the use of GPS equipment to streamline the operations, which was critical.

Final Takeaways: A Job Well Done

Barnhill started as the only contractor on-site, grading the land for a year before others joined in. We hammered out a fair price with Vinfast in a two-month negotiation, then got to work. The Vinfast project is another notch in our belt, a testament to our grit, skill, and unwavering commitment to getting the job done right.
