Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences Theater
The Imperial Centre Theater is located adjacent to the Braswell Library and across the street from the Imperial Centre for the Arts & Sciences, renovated from the Old Imperial Tobacco Plant. The theater is designed to respond to this context using simple forms and metal skin that complement the historic industrial character of the Imperial Centre. The auditorium seats 300 patrons – 280 seated on a steeply raked slope and ten box seats on either side. The orchestra pit accommodates 25-30 musicians and the backstage facilities include a wardrobe shop, set shop, chorus dressing rooms, individual dressing rooms with a shared bath and a green room/lounge area. The Imperial Centre Theatre is linked to the larger complex by an enclosed bridge that spans over the abandoned roadway.
