Duke Lemur Center Habitat Enrichment
The Duke Lemur Center Habitat Enrichment project consisted of two new animal housing and research buildings located on the Duke Lemur Center Campus. The first building measures 14,922 SF and includes exterior animal runs and 7,056-SF of interior space. The facility accommodates up to 60 animals which can be released into the 69-acre Duke Forest if weather permits. The second building measures 20,637 SF and includes 9,883 SF of interior space. The buildings were designed with animal housing wings radiating from the center of the central core which includes space for labs, exam rooms, food preparation, bathrooms and storage areas.
The building was awarded LEED Silver®certification from the US Green Building Council. Sustainable features include low-flow plumbing fixtures and low electricity usage.
