Chatham County Library
Located adjacent to the LEED Platinum® Central Carolina Sustainable Technologies Building, the Chatham County Library serves as the library for both the community college and the public. The Chatham County community is committed to leadership in sustainable design, and the library design incorporates many highly innovative features. The project obtained LEED Gold® certification and is designed to use natural light for almost all of the functional light during the daytime. Extensive light modeling was constructed, and electric lights automatically turn off when sufficient daylight is present. The design was thoroughly tested through the use of prototype models and physical analysis. Sustainable features also include sustainable landscape design, solar thermal water and heating system, day-lighting, green roof, low VOC products, storm water management system and an alternative waste water treatment system.
